Regates de Mèze Aout 1951 [24 phortographs]

by Agnès Varda

Two cardboards (32×24,5cm) with 12 photos and 11 photos (6x6cm) pasted on them; with an original hand print (18x22cm) (enlargement of picture No.19). Both cardboards are inscribed in blue ink with “REGATES DE MEZE AOUT 1951”. On the second cardboard in the lower corner is written in blue ink “AGNES VARDA PHOTOGRAPHE – 86 RUE DAGUERRE 86 – PARIS 14 – carte postal 110 Fr. – 18 x 24 200 Fr.” On the original photographic print is written in blue ink at the bottom: “REGATES de MÈZE AOUT 1951 – Photo Agnès VARDA”. On the back is a stamp that reads “MENTION OBLIGATOIRE – PHOTO VARDA – TOUS DROITS RÉSERVÉS” and underneath again in blue ink, “86 rue Daguerre – Paris 14° – Regates Meze 1951 – n°19.“ Cardboard wavy with moderate edge-wear and foxing; various small holes from pushpins on the edges, but not affecting the photographs. Hand print with a small crease on bottom left corner and very tiny holes on margins, barely visible. In good condition.

A very unique collection of 24 photographs taken by Agnès Varda during 1951 in Mèze, a small village located on the other side of the sea from Sète, where her first film La Pointe-Courte was made only 4 years later.
