The special edition of the CICIM (Center d’Information Cinematographique De l’Institut Francais de Munich) on Chris Marker was written and compiled by Ursula Langmann in the course of a film series that presented Marker’s films in various cities in Germany between 1984 and 1985.

In her impressively detailed piece, Das Geträumte Geschichtsbuch [The Dreamed History Book], Langmann approaches Chris Marker’s work through his montage film Le Fond de l’air est rouge, and identifies central themes in Marker‘s work.

In chapters such as Montage / Collage; Unerreichbare Vergangenheit; Der Brief – Frauen; Katzen, Waschbären und anderes Getier, and Geschichte, Zeit, Erinnerungen, she draws connections from Le Fond de l’air est rouge to other works by Marker.

In addition to various photographs provided by Chris Marker, Agnès Varda and ISKRA, this edition contains two excerpts from the third hour of Le Fond de l’air est rouge, in the form of the printed film script with scene descriptions, music scores and the voiceover text. On the basis of these excerpts, Langmann analyzes the structure of the film with its dialectical principle, which approaches the problem from the external appearance and then spirals forward to the inner essential aspect.

With the help of his computer, Chris Marker personally designed the cover for this issue, as stated in the imprint. With an extensive filmography and bibliography, this bulletin is an important and scarce document, which deals intensively with Marker‘s work with an emphasis on Le Fond de l’air est rouge.
